Mike Firmstone   14/Dec/2000:19:56:05
Hello, My name is Michael George Firmstone and I am looking for information on my father Thomas Francis Firmstone who married Margaret(Peggy)Jamieson in the early/ mid ? 1940's in the Birmingham / England area. The only other Firmstone at a registrar office ceremony was I think my father's sister (no name known). Please let me know of any routes to his background and familiy connections. I do not remember ever seeing him as the marriage broke up soon after (or even before) my birth. It's a mystery ! Thanks for your help

I was in your website as Vernon Shrank referred me to it for a look on McMurachy history. It is excellent!!!!!!!

My Grandmother is Ellen Mercy Ruth McMurachy.....daughter of Colin McMurachy, son of James McMurachy. Vernon said that he feels that our line links into David McMurachy's line. I have just sent off a letter to him, by "snail mail" as that was what I was given. The McMurachy history has been very sketchy for us possibly because as adults my Grandmother -&- her father had a disagreement of sorts and didn't speak again. Sadly, that old Scot pride stood in the way of family ties.

Thanks sooooooo much for a terrific and informative site, I look forward to checking it often for new things. All the best, to our fellow McMurachy's Sandra Fields

Kirsteen Carmichael   11/Oct/2000:13:38:29
I found this site totally by accident but I'm glad I did. We are busy researching our family at the moment and have had problems with the Carmichael side. My great grandfather was Gilbert Morrison Carmichael b 1881, His father was Archibald Carmichael b 1833 and his father was Donald Carmichael b1810. We know very little about any siblings although my grandfather thinks some of them did emigrate. They all were born on Isle of Islay. We know that Donald married a Euphemia Morrison at Killarrow in 1830ish. Hopefully you're site will help.

I am looking for my grandmother's family of CARMICHAEL'S. She was born, Mary Jane Carmichael on 10-6-1875 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. On her marriage certificate, she listed her father's name as Issac. On Her death certificate (although this information came from someone else) it said her father's name was John.

It has been told to me that there were at least 9 children, one of whom's name was Janet Carmichael. My grandmother, and her sister were
sent to Providence, RI to work and there she married my grandfather, Ernest WR Studley. I have tried, unsucessfully, to get her birth certificate from Halifax. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

My Name is Euris Carmichael, I attend the Carmichael reunion in Carmichael Mississippi several years ago. I am Black American of mix

Hello Matt and Linda, I have been looking at the archived messages on the Argyllshire mailing list, GenWeb site, etc., and saw your postings about the McMurchy family of Campbeltown. I am not sure I have any information of use to you, but here it is:

A cousin of mine and I have been trying to trace our Kerr ancestry in Kintyre back as far as possible. We know that we descend from a Hugh Kerr who married in Campbeltown on 15 February 1765 Catherine McIlchattan. He was from Carradale, and she from Torrisdale, both in the parish of Saddell -&- Skipness, Kintyre. Both of them may have been born in the Isle of Arran, as there is a possibility that people we have found who might have been their parents all came from there. In two cases, we have been able to tentatively identify grandparents. We think that Finlay Kerr and his wife, Sarah McMurchy, apparently residents of Kilmory, Isle of Arran, might have been the grandparents of our ancestor, Hugh Kerr. Their son, also named Hugh, married in

Dear Matt, Hello fellow Carmichael! I stumbled across your web page this morning while trying to get some information on the Carmichael
genealogy. I recently went to a family reunion in W.Va. ( for the family "Preas(t)") and decided when I got home I'd try to learn a bit
more about my own heritage. I am 51 but the only surviving member of my immediate family. My mother's name was Alta Dawn Powell Carmichael of CT and my father's was Andrew Johnston Carmichael, Sr., also of CT. My brother was Gary Thomas Carmichael and my sister Janet Warner Carmichael.

My father's father was Andrew Johnston Carmichael my grandmother Florence Hall Carmichael. They also had a daughter, Eleanor Virginia
Carmichael. She spent most of her life in Dayton, OH then moved to Hamden, CT about 20 years ago. She died a couple years ago at the
Cheshire Convalescent Home in Cheshire, CT. My aunt never married. My grandfather had 3 brothers: Sir Harry, Tom and Ray. Harry lived in Ottowa, Canada and the other tw

"Continuation of First Note" To back up the Mormon`s records,my oldest living cousin in Elphinstone,Manitoba....Jim McMurachy [1-204-625-2401] tells me that his father always claimed that the MacMurchys in Collingwood, Ontario were also cousins of ours.
Could anybody out there please tell us when our last name was changed and WHY. Thank You.

David W. McMurachy   01/Jul/2000:21:24:30
I`m from ST.Marys,Ont. PH: 1 [519] 284-0524
According to what I have gathered recently,I understand that my last name was a MacMurchy in Scotland.......with no "A" in the middle of the
name. My great, great grandfather James and his wife [Martha Milloy/Malloy/Molloy] came to Canada in 1826 from Campbeltown, Argyleshire, Scotland and settled around King and Maple,Ontario in the Township of Vaughan,County of York. They took up land on
Lot:33-6-Vaughan.

There seems to be some confusion as to the spelling of our last name when James and Martha first arrived in Canada.Apparently on a tombstone which is erected for our James in the Maple Presbyterian Cementary our name is sited as being spelled as "McMurchy",yet according to the Mormon`s records back in Scotland it is spelled as being"MacMurchy"and furthermore we today spell it as I have done above....."McMurachy".

TO back up the Mormon`s records,my oldest living cousin in Elphinstone, Manitoba....Jim McMurachy [PH: 1-204-625-2401]

Hello, I am looking for any information about my family line. My dad's name is Dennis Paul Carmichael, my grandfather is Harold Lester Carmichael and my great-grandfather is Edward Hanley Carmichael. I don't know much past him. Is there anyone out that that is related to these men that might have more information before Edward (i.e. who his dad was and so on). I think my great-grandfather was born in Nodaway, IA. Any help that anyone can give me would be great! Thanks, Keri Carmichael

Hi! I happened upon your web-site while looking for information on the McCutcheon Trace. I don't believe I am any relation to you - although I did have ancestors who came from Lanarkshire. You web-site is absolutely the best I have seen! I've only been "rooting" for a little over a month, but already I have big dreams of publishing a book and having a web-site. Yours is truly an inspiration! You deserve every award you get! Best Regards, Traci Field, Belgrade, Montana

While searching for some Civil War sites, I came across your Carmichael site. Maybe it was fate, I don't know. I have been looking for an old Air Force friend, Robert Carmichael, for the past 18 years. One of those contacted had a directory called "Clan Carmichael", which he
loaned to me for a short time. I wrote to every Robert Carmichael in the book and got some great responses, but didn't find the right Robert. Possibly you could assist me in my effort.

The Robert I am looking for was a B-52 pilot, stationed at Seymour-Johnson AF Base, N.C. in 1971. He married an AF 1st Lt Jessie A. Moore 13 Feb 71. I have no idea where they got married or whether he got out of the Air Force. I do know that he did not retire from the Air Force (to the best of my knowledge). I believe Jessie A. Moore was from Texas. Any guidance or assistance will be appreciated. THANKS

Diane Bronico   26/Apr/2000:16:38:30
Linda, Hi! I'm signing the guest book. I still am so excited over this discovery. By the way if you read this, sometime after you read my e-
mail,I realized after I sent it to you I made an error in arithmetic. Donato, your great grandfather was born in 1868 and Vincenzo, my grandfather was born in 1882; that makes them 14 years apart, not 16. My mother couldn't say for sure if he was born in '82 or '84 and his
death certificate is nowhere to be found. He died in 1958. I'll go to the cemetery and take a look in the near future just to verify. Speaking or reading Italian would certainly be helpful, as you well know. Well, again, best regards, Diane

Jerry Moulton   04/Apr/2000:19:28:45
Hello Mr. Carmichael, my name is Brad Moulton. I visited your web site and was quite impressed. However, I was quite unsure where to start searching. I've got some decent names and dates, such as John Carmichael being born in Scottland in 1836, married to Catherine. Both came to Canada and had Dougal in 1868. All moved to Kansas shortly there-after. What is your recommendation for searching farther back with this family branch? Appreciate your input, Brad.

David Logan Erin's Isle - Ireland's Sites and Sounds 15/Jan/2000:01:14:38
Excellent website. It's the most informative and interesting genealogical site I've encountered.
Anyway, I knew there was a Capt. William Logan in my family, but I barely had any information on him, and nobody else knew anything until

I read a message on the PAGenWeb site. I was surprised to see Capt. William Logan. I once visited Gettysburg about five years ago and saw his name on the plate.

I couldn't find much information on the Logan family, but I've just begun my research, more or less. I could only go back to my great-grandfather, but I went back to my GGG grandfather on the Kelley family. I live in Alaska, so it isn't easy to find much up here

In a few minutes looking at this site, I've learned more than I did in all of my research.
I'd tell you what I've learned about the family, but it looks like you already know what I do (and don't).
By the way, have you ever head of Frisbee Brisco Logan?

I have just started researching my geneology and Holzapfel is one of my family names. I chose this as my start because it is a name that is
uncommon. My great grandparents on my mothers side were Holzapfels. Lou Holzapfel married Katte Hall and their daughter Pauline (Lammers)is my grandmother. I currently live in Columbus Ohio but I was born in Greenville Ohio. I know there are related Holzapfels still living there. I don't know if there is any connection but just thought you might want to know as you have been doing this a lot longer than I
have.
